Old Timers Days Hero Essay Contest
The Old Timers Days Festival Committee wants to hear your story. For the first-ever OTD Hero Essay Contest, we are looking for first person narratives on who you feel is a true hero and why, or write about a heroic act you have witnessed. The hero can be a person, persons or organizations such as a fire department for example.
The word hero can be interpreted as broadly as you like. Whether you choose to write about a life lesson involving persons such as a teacher, a fireman, a police officer, a soldier or a community volunteer or you may take heroism in a different direction, you may write about whatever you wish including heroes of 9/11. No topic is off-limits.
Essays will be judged mainly on emotional power, originality, and natural flow of words.
Open to all ages. 1st through 3rd place will be awarded in Elementary, Junior & Senior High and Adult Category. One overall winner will be selected for a $50 award. There are no resident restrictions.
Postmark entries by September 10, 2011, winners will be announced in the Craft House on Saturday, September 17, 2011, and the check will be awarded on stage after the Kiddie Parade winners introduced.
